Ford motor company, one of USA Big Three of Automotive manufacturer has this in their facility.
It’s producing metal stamp parts, which usually took months for the tooling (dies) to complete, in hours.
Interesting. I had been in the industry for some years, and had a little bit of experiences designing metal parts for cars. We do have to wait for months for a particular part to be produced just to find that there’s a design problem.
If you can have it in hours, you saves A LOT OF TIME, guessing and waiting if your design is okay or otherwise. Prototypes can be built really quick, problems can be identified earlier.
There’s CAE (Computer Aided Engineering), but, CAE can only predict. Their predictions is only as good as a theory, it could be close to practical, but, then, it is not the real thing.
This, could change with the technology Ford Motor Company called F3T, Ford Freeform Fabrication Technology.
